Vandal Healing Garden and Memorial
On November 13, 2022 four Vandals, Xana Kernodle, Ethan Chapin, Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves, were killed in an off-campus house. In the weeks and months that followed, people from all over the world expressed their compassion and care for our university, and most importantly, our students.
The sad reality is that we lose students each year to a variety of causes. In the wake of loss, we turn to each other for support and healing. The Vandal Healing Garden and Memorial (VHGM) is a visual representation of our #vandalstrong resilience. The space will include a permanent reminder of Xana, Ethan, Madison and Kaylee, as well as a garden space for quiet reflection, remembrance and honor for all.
A Collaborative Vision
In keeping with the educational mission of University of Idaho, students studying landscape design and architecture will draft concepts for the VHGM in Fall 2023. The community can also contribute designs and ideas for incorporation into the final design. The collaborative project is an element of the healing process that will culminate in a space open to all.
Many of you have asked how you can help. Some have asked how to donate. Others want to be part of the design process. No matter how you want to be involved, thank you! Below are ways you can contribute either by making a gift or sharing inspirational design ideas through the Call for Inspiration.
Thank you for supporting our Vandal Family.
