Brian Kane received his Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Political Science from the University of Idaho. He earned his law degree from the Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon. Brian was admitted to the Idaho State Bar in 2000 and began his practice in the private sector.
In 2001, Brian was hired as a Deputy Attorney General in the Intergovernmental and Fiscal Law Division of the Office of the Attorney General. He was promoted to Lead Deputy Attorney General for that Division in 2004. One year later, Brian was again promoted to Assistant Chief Deputy Attorney General.
Brian serves as legal counsel to the Secretary of State, the Legislature, and the State Treasurer’s Office; he acts as a liaison between the Attorney General and local, state and federal governments; and, he handles all amicus requests. Brian has authored legislation, constitutional amendments, and numerous legal articles. He serves as a faculty member for the National Attorneys General Training and Research Institute (NAGTRI), and conducts continuing legal education training on diverse topics throughout the country. He has argued before the Idaho Supreme Court and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
