4-H Youth Development

4-H is a national program for youth ages 8 to 18. 4-H members have fun, learn by doing, make new friends and help others feel good about themselves.

4-H is a leader in developing Idaho’s youth to become responsible, productive citizens — meeting the changing needs of a diverse society.

Enrollment

Enrollment is done through the 4-H online portal.

Membership and Age Requirements

4-H recognizes the age of the individual on Jan. 1 of the current 4-H year. Eligibility established on Jan. 1 will remain in effect for the entire 4-H year, which runs from Oct. 1 to Sept. 30.

4-H members ages 8 to 18 years are eligible to participate in all programs offered by 4-H, including competitive activities and events. Individuals older than 18 years of age who have special needs are eligible to participate in 4-H, provided they are enrolled in high school.

The maximum number of club members and types of projects offered will be established by individual club leaders. To qualify as a club, there must be at least five participants. Clubs composed of immediate family members are strongly discouraged.

Opportunities

Members and leaders decide what their 4-H club does. 4-H clubs usually focus on one or more topics. They conduct project-related activities. Clubs also do community service, both in their project area and where they are needed.
