Occupational Education Option

This option is designed for those teachers in secondary trade and industrial programs who wish to teach in post-secondary professional-technical programs.  Requirements include the General Professional-Technical and Technology Education Requirements and the following:

  • CTE 420: Evaluation in Professional-Technical Education (3 cr)

  • CTE 426: Instructional Design & Curriculum (3 cr)

  • CTE 447: Diverse Populations & Individual Differences (3 cr)

  • CTE 472: Teaching and Learning in Occupation Education (3 cr)

Approved course in computer literacy (3 cr)

Professional-technical electives approved by advisor to total (128 cr)

  • CTE 200, 400: Seminar (cr arr) 

  • CTE 203, 403: Workshop (cr arr)

  • CTE 204, 404: Special Topics (cr arr) 

  • CTE 299, 499: Directed Study (cr arr) 

  • CTE 306: Preservice for New Professional-Technical Teachers (3 cr)

  • CTE 307: Inservice for New Professional-Technical Teachers (3 cr)

  • CTE 418: Teaching Economics & Personal Finance (3 cr)

  • CTE 470: Technical Competence (1-32 cr)

Additional requirements for Professional Technical Education students seeking Idaho Secondary Teaching Certificate include the satisfactory completion of the PRAXIS II Content Area Test, & the following:

  • Comm 101: Fundamentals of Public Speaking (2 cr) or

  • Comm 132: Oral Interpretation (2 cr) 

  • EDCI 201: Contexts of Education (2 cr)

  • EDCI 301: Learning, Development, & Assessment (3 cr)

  • EDCI 302: Teaching Culturally Diverse Learners (4 cr)

  • EDCI 401: Internship Seminar (1 cr)

  • EDCI 463: Literacy Methods for Content Learning (3 cr) 

  • EDCI 485: Secondary Internship (18 cr) or

  • CTE 484: Internship in Professional - Technical & Technology Education Teaching (18 cr)

  • EDSP 300: Educating for Exceptionalities (2 cr)

  • Psyc 101: Intro to Psychology (3 cr)

  • Psyc 305: Developmental Psychology (3 cr)
