Freight

Freight Process

Inbound freight (defined below) for the University of Idaho will be received by Campus Mail Services and then signed over to and delivered by City North American freight lines. City North American will direct bill all departments for this service. For questions and information about freight please contact City North American at:

Freight: Packages from any carrier that meet one or more of the following: over 70 pounds; length + girth = 110 inches or more; pallets of shrink wrapped packages; multiple packages received; or ones that will not fit in the mail room or mail cabinet.

Reminder to the Campus Community Concerning Freight Deliveries

If you are considering picking up an item to avoid CNA deliver charges please read on.

Due to a risk of injury to untrained campus employees trying to pick up and load oversized, heavy items, freight pick up at the Campus Mail Services dock will be limited as follows:

  1. Items must be less than or equal to 70 pounds to be picked up by a member of your department. This is the same weight limit that Campus Mail employees follow.

  2. If you wish to pick up an item you must enter a Flag in the CMS Tracking system on our website and request "Hold for pick up". You will need the tracking number of the item in order to enter the Flag. See the package tracking section above.

  3. Due to limited space CMS will hold a flagged item for 2 business days only. We will only hold items that meet the criteria in number 1. All other large items will be delivered by CNA. Pick up hours are M-F, 11-noon and 1-4 p.m. only or by appointment.

  4. If the item has not been picked up on the 3rd business day the item will be turned over to CNA for delivery and the department will be responsible for the CNA delivery fee ($40 per delivery not per hour or item).

  5. City North American will deliver freight on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. When you are expecting freight to arrive please have a person available to sign for the freight delivery and a budget number for delivery charges ready for them.

  6. You can track your freight on the CMS website at the link above. See the package tracking tutorial to learn how to use the tracking system.
