Each course offered through the Independent Study in Idaho program is sponsored by one of the cooperating member institutions (University of Idaho, Boise State University, Idaho State University or Lewis-Clark State College). Students may register for ISI courses without applying for admission to any of the cooperating schools; admission to any of these institutions is not automatically granted upon registering for an ISI course. Idaho residency is not required.
Although ISI does not offer degrees, credits earned upon course completion may be applied toward a degree at an institution that accepts ISI course credits. University of Idaho students working toward a degree are required to obtain signature approval from their academic advisor to receive University of Idaho college credit for an ISI course. It is recommended that students at other institutions obtain signature confirmation that ISI credits will be accepted. A space is provided on the Registration Form.
Please see College Credit for more information.

Instructors are available to answer questions concerning grading and may be contacted as specified in Canvas.
Each member institution of the ISI cooperative (see Cooperating Institutions) is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), the region’s accrediting agency. Independent Study in Idaho is a member of the WICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies (WCET) and the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreements (SARA) through the University of Idaho.
